Privacy Policy
Last updated: 12 October 2026
CiteSwap (citeswap.com) is a free tool for finding and converting citations. This policy explains what happens to information when you use it. In short: we have no accounts and no database, and we don’t store the references you search for or convert.
What you type
Searches and pasted references are processed in your browser. To find matching records, your browser sends search text, DOIs or ISBNs directly to these open scholarly services:
- Crossref: article, book and conference metadata.
- OpenAlex: free-PDF links, only when you click “Free PDF?”.
- Open Library: book details for ISBN searches.
- doi.org / DataCite: records for DOIs that Crossref doesn’t hold.
Like any website, these services receive your IP address and the request; their own privacy policies apply. CiteSwapnever receives a copy of what you type.
What is stored on your device
Your bibliography, your preferred citation style and your light/dark setting are saved in your browser’s local storage so they are still there next time. They never leave your device. You can delete them with “Clear all” in the bibliography or by clearing your browser’s site data.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used. It does not use cookies, does not fingerprint visitors and does not track you across sites.
Advertising
CiteSwap is funded by ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites. Specifically:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of some third-party vendors’ cookies at aboutads.info.
Visitors in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent through Google’s consent message (a certified consent management platform) before personalised ads or advertising cookies are used. You can change your choice at any time through the “Privacy and cookie settings” link that the message adds to the page. Read more inhow Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Children
The site is a general study tool and is not directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect their personal information.
Your rights
Because we don’t hold personal data about you, there is usually nothing for us to access, correct or delete. For data held by Google, Cloudflare or the scholarly services above, contact them directly.
Changes and contact
We’ll update this page if anything changes and revise the date above. Questions: [email protected].
