Terms of Use
Last updated: 12 October 2026
By using CiteSwap (citeswap.com) you agree to these terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
The service
CiteSwap is free. It helps you find bibliographic records and format or convert references into citation styles. There is no account, and we may change, pause or discontinue features at any time.
Check your citations
Citations are generated automatically from public catalogue records and your input. Records can be incomplete or wrong, and style guides leave room for interpretation, so always check citations against your style guide and your instructor’s or publisher’s requirements before submitting work. You are responsible for the accuracy of your own work and for avoiding plagiarism.
Acceptable use
- Don’t use the site to break the law or infringe anyone’s rights.
- Don’t try to disrupt the site or overload the third-party services it relies on, for example with automated bulk requests.
- Don’t copy the site’s pages or design to pass them off as your own service.
Your content
References you paste stay yours. They are processed in your browser and are not stored by us (see thePrivacy Policy). The formatted citations you create are yours to use without restriction.
Third-party data and software
Metadata comes from Crossref, OpenAlex, Open Library and doi.org under their own terms. Citation styles come from the Citation Style Language project (CC BY-SA 3.0) and formatting uses citeproc-js. See licences. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; we don’t control their content.
No warranty and limitation of liability
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose or uninterrupted availability. To the fullest extent permitted by law, CiteSwap is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site, including marks lost because of an incorrect citation.
Changes
We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version. Continuing to use the site means you accept the current terms.
